How to compose with North?

North, designed by Arik Levy, reimagines conventional lighting as a geometry of suspended elements. Conical shades hover in mid-air, supported by a slender architecture of rods and cables that lend a sense of order and rhythm to the surrounding space. The collection’s distinctive visual lightness is complemented by soft, focused illumination that can be adjusted and repositioned as required.

Composing Pendants expands North’s compositional potential. Offering seamless connectivity, it invites designers to explore the relationship between light, space and gravity without constraint, enabling intricate compositions that respond to architecture with grace, precision and balance.

North is conceived as a three-dimensional drawing of light and line. Its sleek silhouette is available in six models of varying sizes and in two structural formats. The classic pendant traces a slender line vertically down from the ceiling, balancing poetic form with functional precision. The deconstructed version creates a new and unexpected category of lighting, visually separating the shade from a slender carbon fibre rod.

Connected by ultra-fine cables, this dynamic system of adjustable elements evokes a subtle sense of movement and lightness. The arm serves as an axis by which each component can be positioned as needed: a soft slant traces an elegant, open line, while a tighter angle directs a focused pool of downlight to a specific area.

Within Composing Pendants, North breaks free of traditional electrical limitations. Thanks to its simple installation and seamless connectivity, a single luminaire can be drawn independently through space, or several pendants can be connected to the same point. North’s delicate geometry seems to float overhead, adapting to different heights and scales.

For suspended ceilings, remote and recessed connections provide a smooth, clean look, reducing visual noise and enhancing the purity of the composition. Light and dynamic, the collection responds to the flow of a space. Like lines drawn in the air, its subtle presence defines without imposing—delimiting spaces, connecting scenes, and giving rhythm to the architecture.

In spaces where the architecture does not allow for drop ceilings, surface and free-wire connections enable flexible, customised configurations. Cables trace fine lines across walls and ceilings, visually extending each composition and enriching spaces with their own graphic language.

Available in four subtle matte lacquer finishes—White, Beige, Black, or Blue—North’s quiet presence adapts naturally to residential, commercial and public settings. Multiple deconstructed models echo the rhythmic pattern of ceiling beams, culminating in intimate downlights over restaurant dining tables.

A large pair of symmetrical luminaires casts bright, energising light over a workspace; a harmony of pendants of varying sizes delivers softly focused light over a relaxation zone; and a set of classic pendants lends a quiet distinction, elevating a residential kitchen or bar area without overwhelming the space. Wherever it is applied, the collection remains refined, composed and distinctly contemporary.
