Lievore Altherr<\/a> is an acclaimed Barcelona-based design studio with a distinguished 25-year history. Led by principals Alberto Lievore and Jeannette Altherr, the firm specializes in product design and development, creative direction and strategic consulting. Known for work that emphasizes harmony and balance, their roster of internationally recognized clients include Camper, Bernhardt Design, Poltrana Frau and Vibia, for whom they designed the award-winning Tempo<\/strong><\/a> collection.<\/h2>\n

We interviewed Jeannette Altherr and Dennis Park from the Lievore Altherr Studio<\/a> to uncover some of the secrets of their success and what inspires them.<\/p>\n

\u00bf What is the most relevant influence in your designs?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jeannette<\/strong>:\u00a0
\nThe search for Balance and Harmony<\/p>\n

Dennis<\/strong>:
\nBefore doing anything else we try to get to grips with the life, the people, and spaces that we live in \u2026 and by the way, sharing a good meal is one of the best ways to get to that point!<\/p>\n

The best and worst things about designing as a team<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jeannette<\/strong>:
\nThe best: a wider perspective sharing and learning. The magic of being able to arrive at something which would not be possible on one\u2019s own.
\nThe worst: when someone\u2019s ego gets in the way, overriding our shared values.<\/p>\n

Dennis<\/strong>:
\nWe really enjoy the different perspectives and the people working with us in the studio. I can\u2019t think of anything negative!<\/p>\n

Your best quality and worst weakness<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jeannette<\/strong>:
\nQuality: curiosity \u2026and getting to the bottom of things.
\nWeakness: impatience.<\/p>\n

Your favourite quote?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jeannette<\/strong>:
\nMore than a quote, it\u2019s something that I misunderstood so that it made more sense to me: \u201cTo be natural is a very difficult pose to keep up.\u201d Oscar Wilde said it cynically, because he didn\u2019t believe in nature, while I know the knowledge and the work that goes into designing something, whether it be an object or an image, that has the virtue of appearing spontaneous, simple, easy, as if it had always been there.<\/p>\n

Dennis<\/strong>:
\n\u201cA true journey for discovery is not finding new land, but having new eyes.\u201d\u00a0Andrea Pazienza<\/p>\n

Your favourite moment of the day is \u2026<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jeannette<\/strong>:
\nAt sunset. Especially at my home which is designed to capture the magic of the setting sun.<\/p>\n

Dennis<\/strong>:
\nWhen we take a coffee break together every morning in the studio. When we share ideas, recipes, stories and jokes\u2026.<\/p>\n

A book that everyone should read<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jeannette<\/strong>:
\nI\u2019ve become a real fan of podcasts, taking advantage of my daily journeys made by car or train. Recently I\u2019ve been listening to the \u201cWaking up\u201d podcast by Sam Harris. I love his way of being able to maintain an open and intelligent conversation without sacrificing his convictions.<\/p>\n

Dennis<\/strong>:
\nIt depends so much on each individual! Some of our favourites are: Siddhartha de Hesse, I feel a real connection with the protagonist in her lyrical search for meaning.\u00a0The books of Chinua Achebe, who writes in a constructed language, one that is direct but filled with \u2018fables\u2019 exploring social aspects of African villages.\u00a0\u00a0And Tom Wolfe\u2019s The Painted Word, even if it\u2019s over exaggerated, it\u2019s very ironic, incisive and entertaining.<\/p>\n

A famous person with whom you\u2019d like to spend a day<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jeannette<\/strong>:
\nSam Harris. I\u2019m not sure if he\u2019s really famous but it would be an interesting day.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Something that is always in your fridge<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jeannette<\/strong>:
\nReal, proper bread and a good quality olive oil (not kept in the fridge)<\/p>\n

Dennis:<\/strong>
\nA clich\u00e9 but \u2026chocolate.<\/p>\n
