Home / The Edit Projects Vibia light fittings were chosen to highlight the interior design and daily life of this charming house in the Cannaregio neighbourhood Far from the crowded streets and tourism that floods Venice there exists an oasis of calm and quiet where past and present comingle; a house conceived as an ode to design, to simple beauty and warm illumination that lends comfort, that marks the rhythm of the day, and that creates a dialogue with its spaces. The house is located north of Venice, in the Cannaregio neighbourhood, one of the best conserved zones that retains the authentic day-to-day ambience of this unique city, accommodating the Jewish ghetto, the Madonna dell’Orto chapel and its paintings by Tintoretto, the Murano island directly opposite and an immense lagoon on the other side.Organised over three floors this palazzetto is called Casa della Sensa and features six bedrooms, a kitchen and bookshelves on each floor, and most importantly a generous garden that introduces a breath of fresh air. The project is defined by three pillars: organic materials and colours, contemporary furniture and a curated immersive lighting scheme. The pared back sober style of the interiors evokes a somewhat traditional sensation. The terrazzo floors, the lime wash walls, the original timber beams, the well-chosen details, the palette of muted and delicate terracotta colours, the greens and greys and the rough texture finishes all add to the subtle ambience of the rooms. Within this curated environment, the history and the design come together perfectly. Materials, textures and selected objects are mixed with contemporary furniture pieces, historic architecture and greenery within the garden. So that, together with some iconic 20th Century design pieces (Jean Prouvé, the Bouroullec brothers, Isamu Noguchi…) Vibia’s lighting defines the atmosphere of this sensitive interior design exercise. In fact, the lighting is a fundamental part of the project, as it organises and defines the various spaces responding to the different ways they are used throughout the day, highlighting the materials, the colour palette and the tactile finishes, which in addition augment the sensation of comfort and beauty of the house, with that artistic sensibility so typical of Venice. Vibia’s unmistakable collections Mayfair, Mayfair Mini, Tempo, and Plusminus are dotted throughout, further elevating the interiors. The first two, designed by Diego Fortunato, are available as both table and floor lamps, reinterpreting the classic lamp with a refined and contemporary silhouette. Their slender structure and conical shade create a warm, enveloping light that is both intimate and calming. Available in metallic and lacquered finishes, they introduce subtle touches of colour to tables, shelving, sideboards, and countertops, packed with joyful Venetian style. And secondly the versatile Plusminus collection by Stefan Diez, with its characteristic suspended textile belt. These belts allow for the creation of custom installations where the lights can be positioned freely, allowing them to adapt to each space, to unify the various rooms, almost tracing a line of light within the architecture itself. And finally, the disc version of the Tempo lamp by Lievore Altherr, diaphanous and elegant projecting a subtle and controlled lighting. This light fitting explores the concept of opacity: the projected light is concentrated and creates a focal point, capturing the essence of light in its purest form. The resulting object is both sculptural and lightweight in equal measure. Colourful, creative and expressive, just like the city of Venice and its carnival; they all create a harmonious dialogue with their host building. The lighting from each adapts to the changing day: precise and functional during the mornings, more immersive and tenuous as the evening draws in, witness to the surrounding daily activities performed in visual comfort. The resulting spaces are intimate and refined, where the lighting design stands out not just for the aesthetics but also the concept and utility: organising, lighting, welcoming and fomenting wellbeing. Casa della Sensa is designer refuge, a homely place where each object is chosen with care, complimenting the spaces and the way the house is inhabited. Not just a residence, instead an interior designed for anyone who loves and appreciates aesthetics, architecture and authenticity. A unique and very personal house that also provides a welcoming respite far from the frenetic rhythm of the city. A project that illustrates how light can also be an expression of culture: a creative tool that transforms spaces, filling them with light.
