Home / The Edit News & Events Antoni Arola presents Palma at Punto Luz The Palma lamp designed by Antoni Arola for Vibia has been presented at the Barcelona Punto Luz showroom that specialises in lighting projects. The lamp will be on display in the shop window for the Barcelona Design Week (between the 5th and 14th of June). During the presentation of Palma at Punto Luz, the front window of which has been specially fitted out with a stunning display, Antoni Arola explained the inspiration behind the project: the first idea for Palma came from two sketches where the designer imagined how light and plants could be combined together. This seminal idea, then presented to Vibia took a year of working together in order to become the lighting system that it is today. Palma lends an organic interpretation to the classic light globe. And allows the architect and interior designer to create compositions of new juxtapositions between the horizontal and vertical on a large scale, integrating them with vegetation. Antoni Arola, with a long and distinguished career as a lighting designer and multiple awards, amongst which is the National Award for Design, compared Palma with a landscaping project given how it can transform over time after the designer has signed off on a project. Palma is the third lighting Project that Antoni Arola has collaborated on with Vibia, after the Flamingo and Bambú lamps. Arola explained how working with Vibia introduced him to a different approach to working, an intensive exchange of ideas with director of the firm Pere Llonch to find solutions that were both technically precise with impeccable finishes. The Punto Luz team are responsible for putting together the shop front window display dedicated to Palma that recreates Arola’s original idea, inspired by the beauty of hanging gardens. A beautiful composition that features twelve spheres of light suspended that are alternated with brackets that support plants at different levels. The floating effect creates a dreamy ambience. The Punto Luz shop that specialises in lighting and the design of lighting schemes has fro three decades been a reference in the sector. The installation can be seen until the middle of July at C/ Pau Claris, 30 and is the main element of the shop front display for Barcelona Design Week, taking place between the 5th and 14th of June. Thanks to Punto Luz for its magnificent exhibition, that perfectly illustrates the possibilities that Palma offers. And all the people who took part for their warm reception.
